Our take
For most LA renters and homeowners facing 1–2 day PSPS events, a 1–2 kWh power station covers essentials. Homes with medical needs, well pumps or frequent shutoffs should price a home battery. Fuel generators are cheapest per kWh but bring CO risk, noise and fuel storage issues.
Never backfeed a home through an outlet. Connecting to house wiring requires a transfer switch or interlock installed by a licensed electrician.
